Allergic reactions to workplace allergens
Article Abstract:
Occupational allergic reactions result from exposure to aggravating substances in the workplace, and sometimes resolve when the affected person leaves work. Dermatitis and hives can be caused by latex gloves, metals, and chemicals. Occupational asthma may be caused by contact with specific chemicals, animals, airborne irritants, materials, and other sources. Workers may become sensitized over several years of exposure before symptoms develop. Work-practice adjustments, moving allergic employees, and other avoidance maneuvers are the most effective treatment for these conditions.

Allergic reactions to drugs and biologic agents
Article Abstract:
Adverse drug reactions sometimes result from immunologic response to a medication or its breakdown products. Most reactions are actually manifestations of side effects or overdosage, rather than allergic processes. Allergy to drugs usually requires a previous exposure, and can produce skin reactions, respiratory symptoms, organ dysfunction and severe shock. Penicillin allergy is most common, and skin testing and desensitization can permit its use in many patients with an allergic history. Similar protocols allow treatment in the presence of other drug allergies.

Immune responses in farm workers after exposure to Bacillus thuringiensis pesticides
Article Abstract:
Farm workers' exposure to pesticides containing Bacillus thuringiensis can lead to allergic skin sensitization, and to inducing immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin E antibodies. Exposure to low and medium levels of this spore produced marked response.
