Supportive supervision as a means of enabling self-awareness
Article Abstract:
A clinical supervisor of community psychiatric nurses (CPNs) conducted research into the CPNs' experience of his supervision. A recurrent theme was the empowerment of the supervision process. The CPNs said that felt empowered to make progress with previous difficulties. Discussion of an aspect of work about which they felt unsure enabled them to regain their self-confidence, approach the specific situation with more assurance, and move on with another learning experience behind them.

The dead zone
Article Abstract:
Doctors, nurses and paramedics would benefit from being allowed to practise endotracheal intubation on patients who have recent died, although consent from relatives must be sought in a sensitive manner. Endotracheal intubation can be a painful procedure if not performed correctly, therefore adequate training on either anaesthetized patients or animals is essential for medical staff.
