Alpha-fetoprotein detection of neural tube defects and the impact of standard ultrasound

Article Abstract:

A study to determine whether standard ultrasound is as capable of screening neural tube defects (NTDs) as compared to maternal serum screening using alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is illustrated. It was found that sensitivity of serum AFP screening for NTDs improved when the gestational age used was verified by ultrasound and that standard ultrasound proved to have high sensitivity as abnormalities were identified in all fetuses with neural tube defects.

Article Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to determine the morbidity that is associated with curettage for the management of abortions in women who were infected with human immunodeficiency virus compared with women who were not infected with human immunodeficiency virus. Study provides support to existing reports those women who are infected with HIV merit careful surgical technique for operative procedures.

A randomized trial that compared oral cefixime and intramuscular ceftriaxone for the treatment of gonorrhea in pregnancy

Article Abstract:

Oral cefixime or intramuscular ceftrixone are both effective for treating gonorrhea in pregnant women, according to a study of 95 women. If left untreated, gonorrhea during pregnancy can cause premature rupture of membranes, low birth weight, and eye infection in the baby.
