Apototic cells overexpress vinculin and induce vinculin-specific cytotoxic T-cell cross-priming
Article Abstract:
Cytotoxic T cells (CTLs) are primed when apoptotic cells overexpress vinculin and are ingested by dendritic cells. This suggests apoptotic cells play a regulatory role in determining tolerance or priming, and that CTL frequency in HIV-positive persons depends on the proportion of peripheral Cd40L (super)+ apoptotic cells.

Defeating T-cell fatigue in HIV
Article Abstract:
Studies identified a receptor on T cells, PD-1, as a contributing factor to CD[8.sup.plus] T-cell exhaustion in people infected with HIV. The findings may provide a key to understanding the paralysis of the immune system in HIV infection.
