Are older people satisfied with discharge information?
Article Abstract:
Elderly patients being discharged from hospital do not always receive the information they need with regard to aftercare and treatment, although they are entitled to under the Patient's Charter. A survey carried out to gauge levels of satisfaction 10 days after discharge found some of the 726 patients had difficulty understanding medical terminology or were not told enough. Some felt they were unable to approach staff to ask questions and that they were treated too quickly. The report concluded 40% felt dissatisfied with discharge information, 41% were satisfied while 19% were undecided.

Cardiac rehabilitation
Article Abstract:
The UK health service spent up to 34 million pounds sterling in 1998 on a range of services aimed at helping cardiac patients recover from surgery while developing better eating and exercise regimes. The services are usually offered on an out-patient basis, which results in a poor uptake of rehabilitation services for cardiac patients. Programmes should be tailored to meet the individual needs of patients who require a wide range of rehabilitation in both physical and emotional disciplines.
