Arrest in the liver-A genetically defined malaria vaccine?
Article Abstract:
Exposure to radiation-attenuated sporozoites can elicit a cell- and antibody-mediated immune response sufficient to prevent malarial infection in humans. The study of the up-regulated in infective sporozites (uis3) parasites may help to identify antigens expressed in the early stages of liver infection that are critical to the development of cell-mediated immunity, thereby speeding the design of subunit vaccines, which are more amenable to mass production.

Achieving the Millennium Development Goals-The case of malaria
Article Abstract:
The Millennium Development Goals adopted by world leaders at the United Nations Millennium Assembly in September 2000 focus, among other things, on making appropriate investments and interventions to bring malaria under control. The free distribution of bed nets and effective medicines to impoverished people who cannot afford to buy nets even at highly subsidized prices are some of the measures to prevent malaria.

Transfusion-transmitted malaria in the United States from 1963 through 1999
Article Abstract:
Blood collection centers should be careful to screen all potential donors for risk factors for malaria. Between 1963 and 1999, there were 93 cases of transfusion-related malaria in the US. Two-thirds of the donors should have been excluded from donating under guidelines in place at the blood collection center at the time of donation.
