Assessing drug abusers with the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory: a review
Article Abstract:
The Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) for drug abusers was evaluated. Results showed that its Personality Disorder Scales were effective in discerning the personality styles of addicts. However, its Drug Dependence Scale was found to possess flaws, particularly when a patient is determined to deny the abuse problem. Since the MCMI has been effective as a clinical tool for its first 10 years of use, researchers expect more data to affirm its effectivity. For the moment, clinicians are advised to rely more on the Personality Scales rather than the problematic Clinical Symptoms scales which include the Drug Dependence Scale.

Conducting HIV outreach and research among incarcerated drug abusers: a casestudy of ethical concerns and dilemmas
Article Abstract:
An annotated case ofan unexpectedly HIV-positive drug abuser prison inmate who voluntarily participated in an HIV outreach and research program is presented. The case emphasizes on the problems inherent in HIV testing of incarcerated drug abusers. It is suggested that humane and effective policy on drug abuse, HIV problems and research be formulated by a community panel consisting of substance abuse treatment and medical professionals, civil rights groups, criminal justice personnel and ethicists.

Safe sex behavior in drug-addicted males as a function of object relations
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted on safe sex behavior in drug addicted males viewed as a function of object relations. A Defense Mechanisms Inventory was used to measure the object relations. The aim was to attribute safe sex behavior to personality. Results showed that personality alone could not predict sexual behavior. It was suggested that programs place emphasis on learning the significance of drug-related activities for patients first before analyzing their sexual behavior.
