Article Abstract:
The excellent accuracy showed by the platelet count/spleen diameter ratio for the diagnosis of oesophageal varices is discussed. 0.041 (0.013-0.070) was the difference between the AUC-ROC of the platelet count/spleen diameter ratio and platelet count with p = 0.005 in favor of the platelet count/spleen diameter ratio.

Increased hepatic platelet activating factor (PAF) and PAF receptors in carbon tetrachloride induced liver cirrhosis
Article Abstract:
The changes in the hepatic platelet activating factor (PAF) system in experimental cirrhosis are discussed. The contractile perisinusoidal stellate cells isolated from cirrhotic livers reported increased PAF receptor density.

Prediction of oesophageal varices with platelet count/spleen diameter ratio or platelets alone
Article Abstract:
The use of platelet count/spleen diameter ratio or platelets as predictors of oesophageal varices is examined. The results are reported due to the diagnostic power of platelet count alone.
