Article Abstract:
Human experience around the world dispels the Western belief that mothers and their infants should sleep separately. Sleeping together is in the best health interests of both mother and child. The child's needs are met quickly and frequent breast feeding stimulates hormones that prevent pregnancy.

Vaccinations: mothers require motivation
Article Abstract:
Zaire has increased services to make mothers more aware of the importance of immunization, but many do not seek vaccinations for their children. There are both practical and cultural factors that discourage mothers from seeking this treatment during this phase of a child's health care program.

Paraguay's abortion policies contribute to the deaths of mothers from childbirth at a rate of 300 for every 100,000 live births. The good news is that the government is trying to change political, legal and social rules and attitudes to give women more rights and better health care.
