Article Abstract:
The reasons associated with the decline in the number of applicants opting for U.S. medical schools during the sixth year running in 2002-03 are discussed. The factors such as lower reimbursements, higher medical school tuition and perceptions that physician autonomy is declining are held responsible for studentsE residency choices.

ACGME gives final nod to 80-hour workweek
Article Abstract:
Medical residents and fellows in all accredited training programs would be limited to an 80-hour workweek from 1 July 2003. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has approved new work-hour standards in June 2002 and issued a final version of the rules in February 2003.
