Tobacco firm pays for failure to warn

A landmark decision in Florida could force tobacco companies to revise their advertising practices. The Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in Duval County, FL, found Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. guilty of negligent advertising. According to jurors, Brown & Williamson was aware that nicotine was addictive yet failed to warn smokers. The verdict directed the tobacco company to pay $750,000 in damages to long-time smoker, Grady Carter.
