Beds: what makes a good bed?
Article Abstract:
Tissue viability nurse, Maureen Benbow, of Leighton Hospital, Crewe, recently reviewed their choice of ward beds and found that 61% of mattresses, 78% of mattress covers, and 53% of bed bases were not acceptable. As a result, the hospital has implemented a rolling bed mattress replacement scheme. According to clinical nurse specialist in tissue viability at Calderdale Healthcare NHS Trust, Jacqueline Flectcher, patient comfort should be the most important aspect in bed selection.

Folding beds
Article Abstract:
The Tomlinson Report on London, England health services has recommended hospital bed closures despite increased need for beds. Proposals were based on acute beds in inner London rather than the whole of London. The proposed closures conform to the national average but lack of residential accommodation and poor social conditions are likely to maintain the pressure on beds. Increased resources are necessary to compensate.
