Shaking babies
Article Abstract:
Parents need to be made aware of how serious complications could arise from shaking their babies. Continuous crying is the most common reason given for shaking babies. Nurses are ideally placed to offer support and advice to very young or inexperienced parents, who sometimes feel they can not cope with the demands of looking after a young baby. Baby's heads constitute up to 10% of total body weight which results in severe whiplash and brain damage if shaken. Babies can be made permanently disabled or mentally retarded if severely shaken.

Making babies making waves
Article Abstract:
Tania Freeman and her partner, who were featured in a television series on infertility treatment, discuss why they agreed to be involved in the programme and the effect it has had on their lives. Tania wanted to bring the issue of infertility into the open because, prior to the programmes, it was not discussed much in public. Now people approach Tania in the street to talk to her about their own problems and she is pleased that she has been able to help some of them by bringing infertility into the public arena. Tania now has twins.
