Many states have laws prohibiting discrimination against employees of a business with fewer than 15 employees. The federal Americans With Disabilities Act only applies to businesses with 15 or more employees. Since many dental practices have fewer than 15 employees, dentists should be aware of their state anti-discrimination law even if the federal law does not apply to their practice.

Business associate agreements: a key requirement under the HIPAA privacy regulations
Article Abstract:
Any dentist who is covered by a law called HIPAA will have to have a written business associate agreement with his or her accountant, business consultants, attorney, answering service, billing service, and computer vendor. A dentist will only be covered if he or she transmits any patient information to another person in electronic form. HIPAA regulates the disclosure of private health information in order to protect patients' privacy.

A duty to disclose: issues to consider in securing informed consent
Article Abstract:
The historical development of informed consent law in United States is discussed. Dentists before beginning treatment should obtain a valid informed consent law. The issues relates to the secure informed consent for the patients who are not legally competent are also discussed.
