Big mother is watching you
Article Abstract:
The UK government is to undertake a series of programmes designed to improve family life and society through education and improvement in parenting skills. An investment of 540 million pounds sterling is being made in the Sure Start programme in an attempt to provide support and education for families in deprived or excluded areas. A further 2 million pounds sterling is being spent to establish the National Institute for the Family which aims to help parents overcome their anxiety in asking for help and counselling. Too much government interference may ultimately have a negative affect from parents, according to family specialists.

Now we know what's cooking
Article Abstract:
A 3 month consultation period to assess the legal and medical implication of allowing nurses to prescribe medicines to patients is being undertaken in the UK in spring 1999, although the process of reforming prescribing law has been underway since 1986. A Crown commission has been given the task of formulating a framework which allows nurses to prescribe in certain circumstances and what they are allowed to prescribe. The independent New Prescribers' Advisory Committee will ultimately decide how to implement changes in the law to allow nurses prescribing powers.
