Survey questions usefulness of cardiac mortality data
Article Abstract:
Published provider-specific performance data on cardiac mortality may be jeopardizing access to health care for acutely ill patients, according to a survey of cardiac specialists. Eighty-seven percent of responding cardiologists agreed that the mortality data has had little to no affect on their referral patterns. Pennsylvania and New York are the only states to publish provider-specific performance data.

Questions raised about impact of guidelines in Maine project
Article Abstract:
Results of a five year project in Maine to use practice guidelines as a malpractice liability defense are uncertain. No lawsuits have been filed that fall into the parameters of the experiment and participating physicians say they did not give the guidelines much thought when treating their patients. One goal of the project was to cut the rate of C-section births, it did not happen.
