Body mass index and prevalence of obesity changes among Kuwaitis
Article Abstract:
A cross-sectional study was conducted among male and female Kuwaitis to compare temporal changes in body mass index (BMI), overweight and obesity between two periods, namely, 1980-1981 and 1993-1994. Results showed that mean BMI was greater in 1993-1994 than in 1980-1981 among men and women. Prevalence of obesity and overweight likewise increased among both genders between the two periods. The increase in BMI, prevalence of overweight and obesity among Kuwaitis can be attributed to the effects of modernization, wealth, increased food consumption and sedentary lifestyles.

Obesity and nutrition in children
Article Abstract:
A study of dietary habits of obese children in Province de Luxembourg, Belgium, indicated similar results as those from other regions as regards high intakes of total energy and fat. The boys, as opposed to the girls, consistently demonstrated correlations between total fat, saturated fat, and skinfold thickness with energy density. This nutritional status was especially apparent among boys belonging to families where both parents were obese and whose fathers had low educational attainment. It is concluded that obesity is due mainly to minimal energy output.

Obesity in women from developing countries
Article Abstract:
Obesity in women 15-49 years old from developing countries was estimated, with the aim of determining how obesity varies by educational level and by residence in urban and rural areas. Obesity among women was found to be a serious problem in Latin American and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa and the CEE/CIS region. Rates of obesity in countries rose sharply until a gross national product of $1500 per capital was reached. Obesity levels were greatly concentrated among urban and higher educated women in very poor countries.
