Brace yourself for the return of ergonomics
Article Abstract:
The 1997 appropriations bill provides funding for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The bill does not prevent OSHA from developing and issuing an ergonomics standard. However, this does not mean that a standard is forthcoming. On the other hand, the rising number of reported cases of cumulative trauma disorders may prompt the OSHA to create an ergonomic standard that is more acceptable to the business community than the previous draft standard.

Will Congress step into OSHA territory?
Article Abstract:
The Methylene Chloride standard by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration may be enjoying the distinction of being the first rule being subjected to regulatory overrides by the US Congress. Under the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act of 1996, implementation of the standard may be questioned since the standard did not go through judicial review. The standard may be first if it is ever questioned.
