Building towards a consensus for the use of tumour necrosis factor blocking agents
Article Abstract:
More research is needed to determine whether drugs that block the activity of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) are effective and safe for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. A special supplement to the December 1999 issue of Annals of Rheumatic Diseases reports results from a conference on TNF blockers.

PEGylated recombinant human soluble tumour necrosis factor receptor type I (r-Hu-sTNF-RI): novel high affinity TNF receptor designed for chronic inflammatory diseases
Article Abstract:
Attaching polyethylene glycol (PEG) to the receptor for tumor necrosis factor (TNF) should result in a drug that will last a fairly long time in the body. TNF has been implicated in the development of some inflammatory diseases, and the drug would block its activity.

Etanercept: therapeutic use in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Article Abstract:
The drug etanercept appears to be effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis. This drug is a synthetic form of the receptor for tumor necrosis factor (TNF), which has been implicated in the development of rheumatoid arthritis. The drug blocks the activity of TNF.
