Business booms, but at what cost?
Article Abstract:
The implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in the early 1990s triggered the emergence of industries, but aggravated environmental conditions along the US-Mexican border, in return. Although the three-member-nation agreement pushed for the imposition of various environmental standards, these measures are potentially ineffectual in addressing pollution problems. Instead, the border region became a harbor of infectious diseases and toxic-related disorders.
