CMS project to measure physician quality of care
Article Abstract:
The DoctorsE Office Quality project, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is planning a Medicare program to develop and test quality measures and strategies that would help physicians improve patient care. CMS has identified some 300 physicians in California, Iowa, and New York who would participate in the three-year pilot, under the supervision of quality improvement organizations.

DIR latest to exit medical liability market?
Article Abstract:
Doctors Insurance Reciprocal (DIR), a risk retention group, was taken by the Tennessee Dept. of Commerce and Insurance in late January 2003 along with two other companies that insure hospitals and lawyers into state receivership. DIR has 1,189 claims open nationwide, totaling $81.2 million, even though its liquid assets are $5.2 million.
