Likelihood ratios for modern screening mammography: risk of breast cancer based on age and mammographic interpretation
Article Abstract:
Women whose mammograms are coded as needing additional evaluation probably have a low risk of breast cancer especially if they are young. Researchers combined the sensitivity and specificity of mammography in 26,057 women who had 41,747 mammograms over a 6-year period to create a likelihood ratio (LR). LRs for women whose mammograms needed additional evaluation were very low, especially in young women. LRs for women whose mammograms were coded as suspicious for malignancy were very high regardless of age. However, they represented only 7% of all mammograms.

Effect of breast augmentation on the accuracy of mammography and cancer characteristics
Article Abstract:
Breast implants may make breast cancer diagnosis by mammography more difficult, according to a study of approximately 1 million women. Among women with breast implants, mammography only identified 45% of the women who had breast cancer. Among women without breast implants, mammography identified 67% of those who had breast cancer. Breast implants do not make breast cancer worse.
