Can stem cells cross lineage boundaries?
Article Abstract:
Research presented concerns the physiology of stem cells, cells which are capable of differentiating into all types in the body. Topics addressed include embryonic and hematopoietic stem cells, focusing on research which suggests that organ-specific stem cells or adult stem cells can differentiate into the cells of other organs, either in the lab or 'in vivo' after transplantation.

Stem cells: The good, bad and barely in control
Article Abstract:
Replacement of dying cells through the use of human embryonic stem cells (HESCs) to graft specific cells to treat degenerative diseases or traumatic injury, in addition to its advantages, also has many disadvantages. A study shows that there are many obstacles that have to be overcome before HESCs can be used with confidence as cellular therapy for Parkinson disease.

Embryonic stem cells: staying plastic on plastic
Article Abstract:
A new drug that activates the Wnt pathway maintains the similar state of pluripotent human and mouse embryonic stem cells. This discovery explores the door to defining the accurate molecular mechanism of embryonic stem cell self-renewal.
