Cell-wall chemistry and architecture in relation to sources of dietary fibre
Article Abstract:
The dietary fiber content of any food is determined by the polysaccharide arrangements in the cell wall, the cell type arrays in the tissue and the retention range of cellular structure during the food preparation. The heat treatments on food raise the solubility of mixed linkage beta-glucans and extensively branched neutral arabinoxylans. During consumption, the cells of fruits and vegetables do not break and so the starch and protein stay within the cells during digestion.

Gastrointestinal effects of sugarbeet fiber and wheat brain in healthy men
Article Abstract:
Seventeen healthy men were studied to assess the comparative gastrointestinal effects of consuming 20g of wholly dietary fiber in the form of wheat bran (WB) and sugarbeet fiber (SBF). Particles of these fibers were similar in size and were consumed as supplementary diets. The fecal bulking effect of consuming WB and SBF resembled each other, but were different in the proportions of fecal dry matter and fecal water content.

Effect of finely ground wheat bran or spelt chaff on the transit time in pigs
Article Abstract:
The intake of finely ground wheat bran or spelt chaff fails to reduce the transit time in pigs due to the nonexcitation of the intestinal mucosa by rough fiber and the reduced water-holding capacity. Coarse bran produces lesser transit time than finely ground bran. Spelt-chaff is a by-product obtained from the insoluble dietary fiber useful in the human nutrition.
