Cellular origin of human B-cell lymphomas
Article Abstract:
Research shows that chromosomal defects in B cells that result in lymphoma probably occur while the cell is in the germinal center. These centers are in lymph organs such as lymph nodes and the spleen, where many B cells mature and undergo genetic changes. These gene rearrangements lead to changes in the particular antibody produced by the B cell. B cells are the cells of the immune system that produce antibodies against foreign bacteria and other microorganisms. The intensive processing that goes on in the germinal centers probably increases the chance that some B cells will become cancerous, which causes lymphoma.

Identification of common germinal-center B-cell precursors in two patients with both Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
Article Abstract:
The cases of two patients who developed both Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma demonstrate that Reed-Sternberg cells are probably derived from B lymphocytes. Reed-Sternberg cells are cells seen in patients with Hodgkin's disease, which is a type of blood cancer. Researchers compared mutations of immunoglobulin genes in lymphoma cells and Reed-Sternberg cells from both patients. Some of the mutations were found in both cells, which would be very unusual unless the cells were related. This indicates that the cells had a common B-cell precursor, most likely a germinal-center B cell.

Prognosis in follicular lymphoma - It's in the microenvironment
Article Abstract:
The results of a microarray study that aimed to develop a molecular predictor of survival and to identify biologic determinants of the clinical heterogeneity of follicular lymphoma, which accounts for about 20 percent of B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas is presented. It represents an important advance for risk stratification in follicular lymphoma, and also states the importance of the cellular microenvironment.
