Challenging conventional roles in palliative care
Article Abstract:
The use of nurse practitioners can make a valuable contribution to palliative care services, as shown by the system introduced in the palliative care service in North Humberside. Nurse practitioner posts have allowed patients more immediate access to the care they require, while nurses have been able to give improved continuity of care and doctors have been able to concentrate on their main priorities. Any palliative care service considering introducing nurse practitioner posts should make the necessary investment in training and development to ensure that the necessary credence for the role is established.

Article Abstract:
Clinical nurse specialists (CNS) are necessary for holistic treatment of child epilepsy. CSNs may coordinate community, hospital, education and support services. They provide an information and counselling service. They may also participate in clinical research to improve patient care. Approximately 50,000 children have epilepsy in Britain yet existing CPN epilepsy services are only for adults.
