Changing clinical practice
Article Abstract:
UK health care workers have to be open to making changes in clinical practice because they are working in a public service and their patients have a right to demand best practice. Nurses also have a role to play in introducing new tools and techniques into the multidisciplinary environment. The introduction of change needs careful handling to ensure success. Parties involved should be aware of the reasons for the change, they should understand the goals, they should believe that it is possible for change to occur in the given environment, and they should be willing to take some responsibility.

Cleaning up our practice
Article Abstract:
Research links nebulisers with infection yet a survey of practice on a hospital ward in Bath, England, revealed that nurses correctly cleaned and stored only 11% of nebulisers. The audit also revealed that only eight of the 15 nurses on the ward were aware of the correct cleaning procedures. A period of training and information dissemination significantly improved these statistics. The hospital was in the process of amending its protocol concerning cleaning and re-use of nebuliser equipment but manufacturers differ in their advice on the subject.
