Childhood Asthma Hospitalizations--King County, Washington, 1987-1998
Article Abstract:
Hospital admissions of children with asthma increased 53% in King County, Washington State between 1987 and 1998. Poor children and young children were most severely affected. Increased hospital admissions could be caused by an increase in the number of children with asthma or an increase in the severity of the disease.

Self-reported asthma prevalence and control among adults -- United States, 2001
Article Abstract:
Fifteen million American adults have asthma, according to data from the 2001 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. The percentage of American adults who have asthma ranges from 5% in South Dakota and Louisiana to 9.5% in Massachusetts. The number of people with asthma has increased since 1980.

Self-Reported Asthma Prevalence Among Adults--United States, 2000
Article Abstract:
About 7% of US adults have asthma, according to the 2000 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey. The percentage ranges from 5% in in Louisiana to 8.9% in Maine, and is higher in blacks, poor people, and women.
