Investment in US savings bond may prove to be a profitable venture. Series EE bonds left to mature for at least five years have a minimum annual rate of 6%. When converted to cash, the minimum annual return of 4.16% is given after six months. US savings bonds are also safe investments and the interest they accumulate is exempted from state and local taxes.
