Chromosomal instability in amniocytes from fetuses of mothers who smoke
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to determine whether maternal smoking has a genotoxic effect on amniotic cells, expressed as an increased chromosomal instability, and to analyze whether any chromosomal regions are especially affected by exposure to tobacco. The study concluded that smoking 10 or more cigarettes per day for at least 10 years and during pregnancy is associated with increased chromosomal instability in amniocytes.

Discovery boosts hope for heart repair
Article Abstract:
The regenerating potential of the heart is evident by the presence of cardiac progenitor cells in the heart of neonate humans, rats, and mice. These progenitor cells are the precursors of cardiac muscle cells that can be multiplied into millions of cells in vitro.
