The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) was founded in Australia in 1930 and now provides medical assistance to large areas of remote and isolated countryside. The service operates 26 aircraft and employs 313 people, including 50 flight sisters. There are 13 bases, one of which is Cairns in Queensland where the RFDS not only provides emergency health services but regular clinics for babies, school health screening and ante-natal services.
