Legal and practical impact of clinical practice guidelines on nursing and medical practice
Article Abstract:
Practitioners should use the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research's clinical practice guidelines only as recommendations, not as policy, because of the variability of complications and patient compliance. Thorough and consistent documentation of patient assessment and self-care instructions is essential in case of a malpractice suit. Another important protection against malpractice is proper supervision of unlicensed assistive personnel.

The clinical reasoning case study: a powerful teaching tool
Article Abstract:
Clinical reasoning skills are best taught interactively using previous knowledge rather than retrospectively using well-ordered information offered in typical case studies. The Clinical Reasoning Case Study involves use of diagnostic reasoning processes and data collecting skills. The tool also employs a discussion of the diagnosis.
