Cluster of severe acute respiratory syndrome cases among protected health-care workers -- Toronto, Canada, April 2003
Article Abstract:
Nine healthcare workers in a Toronto hospital contracted SARS after caring for a patient with SARS even though they used gowns, gloves, masks, and goggles to protect themselves. However, the hospital had no formal respiratory protection program in place for its employees. In addition, the primary nurse for the patient had a small beard and said his mask did not fit properly and he could feel air flowing past the sides of the mask.
