Collaborative recommendations: The approach to diagnosis and treatment of HIV wasting
Article Abstract:
A collaborative meeting of clinicians and researchers with an interest in HIV wasting was convened in San Francisco in February 2004 to update opportunities for early diagnosis and optimal therapy for patients with HIV who develop wasting. The therapy focusing on increasing lean body mass in individuals with HIV wasting, including improvements in survival, which is independent of improvement in immune function or reductions in viral load would be the most beneficial for treating HIV infected patients.

Recombinant human growth hormone to treat HIV-associated adipose redistribution syndrome 12-week induction and 24-week maintenance therapy
Article Abstract:
The impact of recombinant human growth hormone (r-hGH) dosed at 4 mg/d for 12 weeks in HIV-associated adipose redistribution syndrome (HARS) in a larger sample of patients is conducted. It is found to produce greater relative losses of visceral adipose tissues (VAT) and trunk fat than of subcutaneous fat and has beneficial effects on the lipid profile.
