Commitment to quality starts with measuring performance
Article Abstract:
Physicians' staffs have a great influence on the quality of care that patients receive. Physicians should consider objective measures of staff performance to understand the impact that their staff's actions have on their patients' perceptions of the quality of care that they are receiving. Phone calls should be picked up by the third ring, callers should not be on hold for more than one minute, and messages should be responded to promptly. High quality staffs are well compensated and motivated, and have a low turnover rate.

Sex turns dangerous
Article Abstract:
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are difficult to control because people dislike talking about them and the conditions are hard to diagnose, according to a 1996 report by the Institute of Medicine. Most of the estimated 12 million Americans who have an STD do not know they are infected. STDs increase a person's risk of contracting HIV and can cause problems with fertility and shorter life expectancy for women. Condoms are the best method of preventing the spread of STDs.
