Reliability of recall of physical activity in the distant past
Article Abstract:
Most participants in a study of recollection of physical activity in the distant past underestimated past fee-day activity, but males overestimated free-day hard activity. Correlations for free-day activity were highest for summer sports in females and winter sports in both sexes. Given the length of elapsed time between original interviews and recall interviews, correlations are remarkable. Researchers must usually depend on ability to remember to characterize long-term habits of study participants in etiologic studies.

Relative excess risk: an alternative measure of comparative risk
Article Abstract:
Relative risk may not always be the best metric for comparing risk of two exposures, so an alternative comparative measure of risk, relative excess risk (RER), is proposed with estimates of the measure and formulas for confidence intervals applicable to case-control and cohort designs. Data from epidemiologic studies of risks of antidiabetic drugs and of oral contraceptives is used to illustrate the new measure.
