Article Abstract:
Some 79.6% of over 1,200 private employers responding to a 1990 UK Department of Employment survey about workplace accidents reported no injuries in the year leading up to the survey. Some 14.4% reported 0.1-3% injury rates, considered low, whilst only 6% report over 3% injury rates, considered high. The highest rates of injury were in the construction sector with 16.7% of firms showing low injury rates and 15% showing high rates. The effect of unionisation on the reduction of accidents is discussed.
