Contract to learn: educational contracting is becoming increasingly important to trusts wanting to streamline their educational requirements
Article Abstract:
Educational contracting between Anglia Polytechnic University and the former North East Thames Region began in Spetember 1992, and this has progressed to the current nurse education contract covering preregistration students, post-qualifying staff and operating department practitioners. To overcome the problems of recruitment due to the inability of staff to be released from clinical areas, an educational currency system was developed. Each programme is allocated a currency of virement points, which has enabled a maximum uptake and a more responsive provision.

Give respect where it's due
Article Abstract:
Many students are embarking on nursing as a second career, following successful careers in related and unrelated areas. However, the hierarchical practices of nursing mean that students' previous experiences are overlooked and belittled. The parochial attitudes of nurse educators and qualified nurses need to be changed so that nursing training becomes less oppressive.
