Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation regimens in assisted reproductive technologies
Article Abstract:
Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) is the designation given to interventions which may influence the harvesting and selection of multiple, mature follicles from the ovary. Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation therapies may increase the number of dominant follicles for retrieval. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) may improve spontaneous cycle ART by helping the ovum to mature, leading to higher pregnancy rates. Clomiphene may produce more than one ovum, where spontaneous cycle ART produces just one. Clomiphene may not be as effective as menotropin in inducing pregnancy. Human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) plus follicle-stimulating hormone may be more effective than hMG alone. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists may be another adjunctive therapy to ART stimulation. Long protocols to suppress the luteal phase may yield better ART results than the short, "flare," protocol. The use of growth hormones in ART may not be effective. Future research about oocyte maturation and implantation may enable ART to achieve a nearly 100% pregnancy rate for previously infertile couples.

The effect of multiple cycles in oocyte donors
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether multiple controlled ovarian hyperstimulation cycles in oocyte donors affect the ovarian response, the pregnancy rates. It was found that oocyte donors can undergo up to three stimulation cycles without a negative affect on the ovarian response to gonadotropins, the number of mature oocytes retrieved, the embryo quality, or the clinical pregnancy rate.

Article Abstract:
Black women who are infertile are more likely to have salpingitis than white women, according to a study of 756 patients attending a fertility clinic. Salpingitis is an inflammation of the Fallopian tubes.
