DNA detectives
Article Abstract:
The group of X. Chris Le, an analytical chemist at the University of Alberta, Canada, has, in collaboration with Michael Weinfeld at the Cross Cancer Inst., Edmonton, developed an extremely sensitive method for measuring chromosome damage from low-dose environmental or clinical exposure. The method represents an improvement of 4-5 orders of magnitude over previously available assays. The method has advantages beyond sensitivity, not requiring digesting the DNA and being economical. It does require great expertise, however, involving skill in capillary electrophoresis.
