Learning by degrees
Article Abstract:
The debate about university education for nursing has many facets. Some commentators say professional education has become too academic and removed from practical requirements. Others point to the general widening of the scope of university education and say that nursing has a right to be within the remit of university education along with other professions. The probable outcome of the debate will be that nursing will become a dual-entry profession, but this situation could create disharmony within the profession.

Go for assistance not resistance
Article Abstract:
The UK National Health Service should embrace the experience of older care assistants wishing to return to work or to up grade their skills through Registered Nursing qualifications. Doctors are increasingly asking nurses to undertake work traditionally carried out at specialist level, while nurses are failing to reap financial rewards. Nurses could use the skill of care assistants to perform traditional nursing tasks, enabling them to train at a higher level to advance the cause of nursing.

Making reflection a rewarding and productive experience
Article Abstract:
The confidence of trainee medical staff can be undermined by the inappropriate and insensitive use of reflective practice techniques. Education providers need to ensure reflective methods are practised in a secure and supportive environment which leads to a positive outcome for all involved. Failure to develop a trusting and open relationship between students and facilitator may cause distress and lead to the breakdown of a student's education.
