DNA synthesis and repair genes RRM1 and ERCC1 in lung cancer
Article Abstract:
An immunohistochemical method for the determination of RRM1 expression in tumors and two other proteins relevant to non-small-cell lung cancer, the excision repair cross-complementation group 1 (ERCC1) protein and the phosphatase and tensin homologue (PTEN), is presented. Results demonstrate that RRM1 and ERCC1 are determinants of survival after surgical treatment of early-stage, non-small-cell lung cancer.

EGFR mutation and resistance of non-small-cell lung cancer to Gefitinib
Article Abstract:
The gefitinib and erlotinic that target the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway show promising results in the treatment of metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer. The response rates to these drugs are 10 to 20 percent when these ATP-competitive anilinoquinazoline inhibitors are used as second-or- third-line treatment for advanced disease.

Prophylactic cranial irradiation for patients with small-cell lung cancer in complete remission
Article Abstract:
Radiotherapy to the head may lower the chance that small-cell lung cancer will spread to the brain. Data on 987 patients in remission from small-cell lung cancer show that those who received cranial irradiation were more likely to be alive three years later. Cranial irradiation also increased the likelihood that they would survive without a relapse.
