Delayed diagnosis and elevated mortality in an urban population with HIV and lung cancer: Implications for patient care
Article Abstract:
A retrospective study was conducted assessing clinical diagnosis of lung cancer in ninety-two HIV-infected patients, and data from the study indicated that HIV-infected lung cancer patients had shortened survival mainly due to advanced stage. Low clinical suspicion and overreliance on chest radiographs hindered earlier detection, and aggressive follow-up of nonspecific pulmonary infiltrates in these patients was warranted.

The use of community-based modified directly observed therapy for the treatment of HIV-infected persons
Article Abstract:
A description of the experience of 69 HIV-infected persons enrolled in a community-based modified directly observed therapy (MDOT) program in Providence, Rhode Island is presented. The results reveal that MDOT should be included in the spectrum of options present to enhance adherence to HAART among patients who are unsuccessful with self-administration of their medications.
