Cancer incidence after retinoblastoma: radiation dose and sarcoma risk
Article Abstract:
Patients with hereditary retinoblastoma have an increased risk of developing a different type of cancer in subsequent years, especially if they were treated with radiotherapy. Researchers followed 1,604 retinoblastoma patients for up to 50 years after diagnosis. Those with hereditary retinoblastoma had 30 times the risk of a cancer recurrence than would be expected in the general population. By 50 years after diagnosis, half had developed another cancer, compared to 5% of those with non-hereditary retinoblastoma. Soft tissue cancers were common and the higher the dose of radiation, the greater the risk.

Breast cancer following radiotherapy and chemotherapy among young women with Hodgkin disease
Article Abstract:
Radiation treatment for Hodgkin's disease can increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer, especially if she received a dose of four Gy or more to her chest area. This was the conclusion of a study of 371 women who were treated for Hodgkin's disease. This risk also involved the sex hormones because women who received chemotherapy that damages the ovaries actually had a lower risk of developing breast cancer.
