Diagnostic accuracy of colorectal cancer staging with whole-body PET/CT colonography
Article Abstract:
The staging accuracy of whole-body positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (PET/CT) colonography compared with the staging accuracies of CT followed by PET and CT is determined and the effect of PET/CT colonography on therapy planning compared with conventional staging is evaluated. The results have shown that PET/CT colonography in conjunction with optical colonoscopy might be a suitable concept of tumor staging for patients with colorectal cancer.

Whole-body dual-modality PET/CT and whole-body MRI for tumor staging in oncology
Article Abstract:
Whole-body CT/PET scans may be more effective than whole-body MRI scans for staging tumors, according to a study of 98 patients who had both procedures. Tumor staging involves determining the type and size of the primary tumor, and whether it has spread to lymph nodes and other parts of the body. This is necessary because tumor staging determines which treatment a patient will receive.

Whole-body imaging with MRI or PET/CT: the future for single-modality imaging in oncology?
Article Abstract:
PET/CT scanning is more effective than MRI scanning for detecting cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, according to a study published in 2003. In order to determine this, doctors must do a whole-body scan. Unfortunately, this technology is not widely available as of 2003, even in the US.
