Consumption of ginger (Zingiber Officinale Roscoe) does not affect ex vivo platelet thromboxane production in humans
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the effect of daily consumption of raw or cooked ginger on platelet cyclo-oxygenase activity as assessed by ex vivo maximally stimulated platelet thromboxane B2 production. A randomized placebo-controlled cross-over design was used. There were 18 healthy volunteers. The results indicate a lack of evidence to support the putative anti-thrombotic activity of ginger in humans.

Diterpenes from coffee beans decrease serum levels of lipoprotein (a) in humans: results from four randomized controlled trials
Article Abstract:
The effect of diterpenes cafestol and kahweol in lowering lipoprotein(a) is analyzed via four random trials. Healthy individuals instructed to drink strong, unfiltered coffee daily for two months yielded lower lp(a) levels compared to filtered coffee drinkers. Intake of coffee oil and purified mixtures of cafestol and kahweol also resulted in minimized lp(a) levels. This study, however, remains inconclusive and should never be taken as proof that drinking unfiltered coffee reduces cholesterol levels. The negative effects far outweigh the lp(a) reducing effects of these two lipids.
