Doctors as negotiators: adapting to shifting expectations
Article Abstract:
Physician approach to negotiation and conflict resolution is often contingent upon phase of life, but all physicians, regardless of age or outlook, should work toward non-adversarial compromise when they encounter conflictive situations. Physicians can be generally categorized into four groups, corresponding to their age: each of these categories will likely have a different approach to conflict, but all should strive to create an effective voice and an original, encompassing, vision.

Article Abstract:
Three competing hospital system are forcing Cleveland, OH, physicians out of their solo practices and into managed care. University Hospital Health Systems, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. are the primary contenders for physicians. A state mandate requiring Medicaid managed care for all Ohio residents has also damaged doctors' abilities to maintain solo practices.
