Doctors escape manslaughter conviction
Article Abstract:
Two doctors who gave a 12-year-old patient at Great Ormond Street children's hospital a spinal injection of vincristine, an anti-cancer drug, instead of injecting the drug into the patient's vein, have escaped conviction for manslaughter. It was ruled at the Old Bailey that the error was not the result of gross negligence on the part of the doctors. Instead, it resulted from a series of chance events at the hospital. Great Ormond Street Hospital Trust has acknowledged that it has a liability in the civil claim for compensation being brought by the patient's family.

The case came to court after a lorry driver fell asleep at the wheel and killed two motorists. The directors of the firm he worked for were found guilty of failing to ensure he took adequate breaks and did not work for too long at any given time.

Involuntary manslaughter report published: Law Commission calls for recognition of new offence of 'corporate killing'
Article Abstract:
The Law Commission believes that companies that cause someone's death through their conduct should be liable to prosecution for a homicide offence.
