Donor-specific B-cell tolerance after ABO-incompatible infant heart transplantation
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to demonstrate that ABO-incompatible heart transplantation during infancy results in development of B-cell tolerance to donor blood group A and B antigens. Results reveal that intentional exposure to nonself A and B antigens may prolong the window of opportunity for ABO-incompatible transplantation, and have profound implications for clinical research on tolerance induction to T-independent antigens relevant to xenotransplantation.

Breaching the barrier of ABO incompatibility in heart transplantation for infants
Article Abstract:
More babies with congenital heart disease could be treated if they could be given a heart transplant even if the blood type was incompatible with theirs. A study published in 2001 shows that babies have immature immune systems and may not reject an incompatible heart.

ABO-incompatible heart transplantation in infants
Article Abstract:
Babies who need a heart transplant should do well even if they receive a heart from a donor whose blood is not compatible. Most incompatible organs are rejected, but babies do not have a mature immune system and are less likely to reject an incompatible organ.
