Down with demarcation: Conventional job titles should not be a barrier to people enhancing their skills
Article Abstract:
The appointment of a radiographer by Central Middlesex Hospital NHS Trust in London, as an emergency nurse practitioner, has caused concern at the RCN Nurse Practitioner Association (NPA). Chair of the NPA, Sue Cross, believes the non-nurses should not undertake advanced nursing roles. However nurses do not have the sole rights to the title practitioner, and there are some who would say that all nurses are practitioners.

Using the named nurse system to improve patient care
Article Abstract:
Hospitals have different practices relating to the named nurse initiative, with some giving it low priority. It can however be used to improve patient's care by ensuring that it is individualised and coordinated. Some nurses view the named nurse initiative as a public relations gimmick. Within the Patient's Charter the initiative promises the patient a named qualified nurse, midwife or health visitor.
